This is a little window to my life. I update it when I feel like it, there is no specific schedule - just whenever. If you have a comment, do it in Facebook or email me. Commenting directly doesn't work yet, and probably never will. Live with it.
Thought of the day: Rain is wet
May 28, 2007
This evening I was out at St. Volodymyr Park (Ukrainian Park) - the one on the way to Pike Lake. We were sweeping out the pool... something about beavers. All I have to say is that rain is really wet. Especially when lots of it falls.
Speaking about gas prices, there's a new kind of car coming out soon that'll be the answer to all our problems. Powered by petroleum? No. Electric or hybrid? Nope. How about methane or corn? Wrong again.
This car is powered by air. Plain old air. Like those kids toys (I think they're called Airhogs or something). Except this one goes 68 mph (109 kph) and has a range of about 125 miles (201 km). Pretty good for air. I wonder how long it would take to fill the tank with a bike pump...
Some good news: I finally have a newer accordion. It's a Guerrini (don't know the model). Works well, can plug in, isn't broken, has red bellows. Rock on.
So, last week we were at the lake - my first time up there this year. Something noticeable now on the other side of the lake is a nice big tower that flashes bright white lights in the day, and red lights at night. Looks so nice when the sun passes behind it as it sets... (sarcasm, in case you didn't get it)
We get great cellphone reception now.
Some examples of the beautiful view that has been sacrificed to make way for progress. The second image is from inside our veranda. The third image is later in the year, when the sun is setting further south.
So yeah, good weekend - Vesna, Vesna, then mother's day / my cousin's birthday, then Cirque du Soleil.
Yesterday I went for a ride in the most expensive / fastest car I've ever been in. 6 cylinders in a small two seater sure help you stay in your seat.
Last weekend our barbershop quartet was in Winnipeg for the "Bonding at the 'Peg" Land O' Lakes Division quartet competitions. Since this was our first competition and since we'd only been together for three months, we were considered novices in our division.
Pshh... never underestimate a half Ukrainian quartet from Saskatoon. Not only did we win the Novice Quartet award, we are now the Northwest Division Quartet Champions. Haha... Barbershop. We have been invited to compete in Rochester (Mn, not NY) in October.
Ok, so school's done. Yes, I'm still alive - I haven't run off into the wilderness yet...
I keep getting these requests from people about joining Facebook. Fine. I'll do it. Don't know much about it, but apparently it's about sharing pictures and stuff. I guess pictures will go in two places then.
While i'm on the topic of the internet, check out Last.fm, and Google Mars. Last.fm is a free online radio site, where you can also keep track of what music you listen to on iTunes and Windows Media Player. Google Mars is like Google Earth, but on Mars (Duhh).
As far as my life goes, it's been pretty good. Lots of school, met some new people, did some stuff, oh and joined a barbershop quartet. That's right. Barbershop. We even have a website already. Next weekend we are going to Winnipeg for district competitions (Northern US, Western Canada). I'll let you know how that goes.
I've done some other stuff since October 10 (my last post), but i'm not thinking right now.
I guess there hasn't been much activity here since the day before school began. Some stuff has happened since then.
On September 17th, Saskatoon hosted a Terry Fox Run. Elia and I ran together. The day was miserably cold, raining, and windy, but who cares - when you're going to run, you're going to run. In the picture is Elia, me, and the event chairperson (don't remember his name).
I also had the opportunity to go see Alberta Ballet's presentation of "Romeo and Juliet". Music was that of Sergei Prokofiev. Wonderful production - Highly recommended.
The other day I was looking for something and came across a really neat website. Remember those short clips they had on CBC a while back about different wild animals in Canada? It was called Hinterland Who's Who. I found the website that has all the clips on it.
One that I actually have a picture of (took it yesterday at school):
I know another heavenly body or two, but I don't need a telescope to look at it/them. Haha... wooh, I need some sleep.
School starts tomorrow, back to waking up in the morning.
Got stung a couple times by the same wasp in the same place at the same time at the lake on Friday. One sting hurts a bit, but two or three really makes the pain last - about two days actually. I figure since I barely got any mosquito bites this summer, instead of many small bites, I got a few big ones (I was stung earlier in the summer too).
